Career Exploration Programs for Veterans

HHUSA, BreakLine, VIP, COMMIT — the corporate transition programs that bridge military to civilian careers.

Career Exploration Programs for Veterans and Transitioning Service Members

Leaving the military means navigating a civilian job market that often does not speak your language. The good news: a growing number of companies and nonprofits have built programs specifically to bridge that gap. Whether you are looking for a direct hire opportunity, a structured exploration experience, or a paid training pipeline, the options below are worth your time.

Programs are organized into three categories: employment-focused initiatives, career exploration programs, and internship or skills-training pipelines.

Employment Programs

These programs are built around connecting veterans and transitioning service members directly with employers.

Hiring Our Heroes

Launched by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) operates fellowship programs, hiring events, and transition summits across the country. Their corporate fellowship program places transitioning service members and military spouses in paid, 12-week fellowships at major employers, with many fellows receiving full-time job offers at the end. HOH also hosts hiring fairs on and near military installations.

Best for: Active duty within 180 days of separation, veterans at any stage, military spouses.

American Corporate Partners (ACP)

ACP pairs veterans with senior professionals from Fortune 500 companies for year-long, one-on-one mentoring relationships. Mentors help with resume review, interview preparation, networking strategies, and long-term career planning. ACP also offers a job board and virtual career workshops. The program is free for veterans and costs nothing to apply.

Best for: Post-9/11 veterans, active duty within 180 days of ETS, Guard and Reserve members.

Your Grateful Nation (YGN)

YGN focuses exclusively on special operations veterans — SEALs, Special Forces, Rangers, MARSOC, and others with SOF backgrounds. The nonprofit provides career coaching, professional development, and employer connections tailored to the unique profile of special operations talent. If you have a SOF background and are struggling to translate that experience into civilian language, YGN is worth a call.

Best for: Special operations veterans seeking private sector careers.

Chase Military and Veteran Recruiting

JPMorgan Chase maintains a dedicated Military and Veteran Recruiting Team that sources veteran talent across its lines of business — including technology, finance, operations, and cybersecurity. Chase has consistently ranked among the top veteran employers. Their veteran hiring portal walks you through open roles and connects you with a recruiter who understands military backgrounds.

Best for: Veterans interested in financial services, technology, and operations roles at a large institution.

Career Exploration Programs

These programs are designed for veterans who are still figuring out which direction to head. They provide exposure to industries, structured reflection, and professional development — often in partnership with leading companies.

FourBlock

FourBlock runs a 10-week career readiness program in partnership with Columbia University's School of Professional Studies. The curriculum covers professional branding, networking, leadership translation, and job search strategy. Weekly networking events bring participants face-to-face with professionals from firms including PwC, Deloitte, Google, and JPMorgan Chase. Cohorts operate in multiple cities and virtually.

Best for: Veterans and transitioning service members who want structured career development with real networking access.

BreakLine

BreakLine focuses on veteran career transitions into technology and high-growth industries. Their program is intensive — typically three days — and includes coaching, company introductions, and interview preparation. The program has a nominal cost but is accessible to most participants. BreakLine has strong relationships with tech companies actively seeking veteran talent.

Best for: Veterans targeting careers in tech, startups, and high-growth companies.

Deloitte CORE

Deloitte's Career Opportunity Redefinition and Exploration (CORE) program, housed at Deloitte University in Westlake, Texas, is an immersive experience for veterans exploring careers in professional services. CORE combines skills assessment, career coaching, and exposure to Deloitte's business lines. Participation does not obligate you to join Deloitte, but many alumni do pursue careers there.

Best for: Veterans interested in consulting, audit, tax, or advisory careers.

Accenture Junior Military Officer (JMO) Program

Accenture actively recruits junior military officers through a structured onboarding and development track. The JMO program is designed to bring leadership talent from the military into consulting and technology roles. Accenture has dedicated veteran recruiters and participates in JMO hiring conferences nationwide.

Best for: Officers with 4-10 years of service looking to transition into management consulting or technology services.

Apple Career Exploration Workshop

Apple has offered career exploration workshops targeted at veterans seeking to understand how their skills apply in a technology-driven corporate environment. Workshop content typically covers how Apple operates, what career paths are available, and how to present military experience to tech hiring managers.

Best for: Veterans curious about careers in technology, retail leadership, and operations at a global tech company.

Internship and Skills Training Programs

These programs combine hands-on experience or technical training with a pathway to employment.

Goldman Sachs Veterans Integration Program (VIP)

Goldman Sachs launched VIP in 2012 to bring veterans into the firm through a structured integration experience. The program provides transition support, mentoring, and direct exposure to Goldman Sachs business units. VIP alumni have gone on to roles across investment banking, asset management, and technology divisions.

Best for: Veterans interested in finance and investment, particularly those with strong analytical backgrounds.

Salesforce VetForce

VetForce provides free Salesforce platform training, waives certification exam fees, and connects participants with partner companies that have committed to interviewing VetForce graduates. Salesforce certifications are widely recognized and translate into roles ranging from administrator to developer to consultant. The program is entirely virtual and self-paced.

Best for: Veterans looking to enter the technology sector without a traditional computer science background.

Booz Allen Hamilton Cyber Bootcamp

Booz Allen Hamilton has run a 10-week paid cybersecurity training program that prepares veterans for careers in cyber. Participants earn industry certifications including CompTIA Network+, Security+, CySA+, and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH). The program covers tuition and pays a stipend, and graduates are considered for positions within Booz Allen and its government contracting partners.

Best for: Veterans with interest in cybersecurity, particularly those pursuing Department of Defense or intelligence community contractor roles.

How to Choose

A few questions to narrow your focus:

  • Do you know what you want to do? If yes, go directly to employment programs and targeted company recruiting. If no, start with an exploration program like FourBlock or Deloitte CORE.
  • Do you want to build a new technical skill? Salesforce VetForce and the Booz Allen cyber program offer credentialed pathways without requiring a degree.
  • Are you a special operations veteran? Your Grateful Nation is purpose-built for your background.
  • Are you an officer? The Accenture JMO program, Goldman Sachs VIP, and FourBlock all have strong track records with officer transitions.

Most of these programs are free or low-cost. Apply to more than one. The veteran community is small — connections made in one program often surface again in another.

The programs listed here are among the most established and consistently active as of 2026. Program availability and details change, so confirm current status directly with each organization before applying.
