Community Guidelines
Last updated: April 2026
Sitreps2Steercos is a community built by veterans, for veterans. These guidelines exist to keep this space safe, supportive, and focused on helping each other transition successfully.
By using our community features, you agree to follow these guidelines.
The Short Version
- Be respectful. We're all on the same team.
- Share your experience, not professional advice.
- Don't scam, spam, or recruit.
- If you see something wrong, report it.
- If someone is in crisis, point them to the Veterans Crisis Line: 988 press 1.
Be Respectful
- Treat every member the way you'd treat a fellow service member.
- Disagree with the idea, not the person. No personal attacks.
- This community includes veterans from every branch, every era, every background. Respect that.
- No hate speech, harassment, bullying, threats, or discrimination of any kind.
Share Experience, Not Professional Advice
- Sharing what worked for you is welcome and encouraged.
- Do not present yourself as a licensed professional (lawyer, doctor, financial advisor, VA claims agent) unless you are one.
- Always frame advice as personal experience: "What worked for me was..." not "You should..."
- For professional guidance, we encourage members to use official resources (VA.gov, accredited VSOs, licensed professionals).
No Scams, Spam, or Predatory Behavior
- No soliciting money, donations, or financial information from members.
- No MLM, pyramid schemes, or "business opportunity" pitches.
- No fake charities or fundraising without prior approval.
- No predatory job offers, lending products, or for-profit school recruiting.
- No unsolicited advertising or repetitive self-promotion.
- Veterans in transition are not targets. Anyone caught exploiting this community will be permanently banned.
No Stolen Valor
Do not falsely claim military service, rank, awards, combat experience, or veteran status. This community takes this seriously. Verified stolen valor results in an immediate permanent ban.
Protect Privacy
- Do not share another person's personal information (real name, address, phone number, workplace) without their consent.
- Do not share sensitive personal information (SSN, financial details, medical records) in forums or public posts.
- What's shared in the community stays in the community.
Keep It Nonpartisan
- Discussion of policy that affects veterans (VA funding, GI Bill changes, transition programs) is welcome.
- Partisan campaigning, political endorsements, and political attacks are not. This is a transition support community, not a political forum.

What Happens When Guidelines Are Violated
| What We Do | When |
|---|---|
| Warning | First minor offense — we'll reach out privately |
| Content removal | Post or comment violates these guidelines |
| Temporary suspension | Repeated violations or moderate offenses |
| Permanent ban | Severe violations: harassment, threats, scams, stolen valor, targeting vulnerable members |
Severe violations skip the warning step. We reserve the right to take action at our discretion.
Appeals
If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, email leadership@sitreps.com within 14 days. Appeals are reviewed by platform leadership, not the moderator who made the original decision.
A Note on What This Community Is
Sitreps2Steercos is peer support. We are not a crisis service, medical provider, legal firm, or VA claims office. The information shared here comes from fellow veterans sharing their experiences. For professional guidance, always consult qualified professionals.
We built this platform because transition is hard and no one should do it alone. Help us keep this community a place worth coming back to.
