UGA Terry: An MBA Guide for Veterans

The University of Georgia's Terry College of Business offers veterans a cost-effective path to a top-tier MBA, with small class sizes and a strong support system. This profile was shared directly by Terry's Full-Time MBA admissions team to help veterans considering business school understand what the experience really looks like.

"The Georgia Full-Time MBA offers a strong return on investment, with a cost-effective path to a top-tier business education and a strong support system for veterans. A major differentiator is the emphasis on applied learning through real-world projects, giving students hands-on experience solving business problems for companies while still in the program. Combined with small class sizes, this creates a close student-to-faculty and student-to-staff ratio that enables more personalized support and mentorship."

Which military backgrounds thrive

At the Georgia Full-Time MBA program, both enlisted service members and officers thrive. Military professionals with experience in operations, logistics, leadership, project management, supply chain management, personnel management, and strategic planning often find that their skills translate particularly well to the MBA curriculum and to post-MBA opportunities.

Examples include veterans who have led complex teams, managed large-scale operations, coordinated logistics across multiple stakeholders, or overseen significant resources and budgets. These experiences align closely with the analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills emphasized in the program.

Your first six months

Week one. Veterans and their families settle in Athens, attend orientation, meet classmates, and get familiar with campus resources such as the Student Veteran Resource Center and the MBA program. Students engage with the MBA Career Management Center and begin the recruiting and internship preparation process that may have started over the summer.

Month one. Students are fully engaged in classes, participating in clubs and campus life, building relationships with peers and faculty, and actively recruiting for internships through the career center. Families are typically settled into housing, schools, and community activities.

Month six. Veterans have established a strong network within the MBA program, are participating in recruiting events and internship interviews, and have a clear understanding of their post-MBA goals. Their families are generally well integrated into the local community and support system.

Key resources for veterans

The Student Veteran Resource Center, Full-Time MBA Admissions, Student Engagement, and the Career Management Center all provide resources that help veterans thrive academically, socially, and personally.

Where veteran alumni land

Many UGA MBA veterans transition into corporate strategy, operations leadership, supply chain, and program or project management roles within Fortune 500 companies. Others move into healthcare administration, logistics and transportation, energy, manufacturing, and government-adjacent or defense industry roles. A number of veterans also pursue rotational leadership development programs that build toward general management.

Geographic reach

The Southeast is the strongest region for UGA MBA placements, with the highest concentration of graduates landing roles there, particularly in Atlanta and surrounding markets. This is followed by growing placement in the Southwest and on the West Coast, where many graduates pursue roles in operations, strategy, and leadership development programs.

The program's reach is amplified by a broad alumni network, including more than 372,000 University of Georgia alumni nationwide and approximately 80,000 Terry College of Business alumni. Together, these networks provide strong regional traction in the Southeast while supporting national mobility across major U.S. business hubs.

Financial planning and funding

The Georgia Full-Time MBA admissions team helps veteran families develop a strategic financial plan for graduate education, including navigating funding sources and military education benefits.

  • The Terry College Veterans Scholarship Fund includes 25 dedicated scholarships for the veteran community, totaling more than $353,000 annually.
  • UGA participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which further helps reduce the cost of tuition for eligible veterans.

Traditions and community

The Georgia MBA Veterans Club provides peer mentorship, connection between first- and second-year students, and a strong sense of community throughout the program. Veterans also engage with the UGA Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC), which offers campus-wide support and programming. On the administrative side, VA certifying officials assist with tuition classification and benefits processing, helping ensure a smooth experience with GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon resources.
