• 48 months of tuition coverage, books, supplies, tech, and even moving costs.
• No tuition caps (unlike the GI Bill).
• Monthly subsistence allowance (~$653/mo without dependents). You can also elect the GI Bill BAH rate in some scenarios.

Use VR&E first to preserve GI Bill months. GI usage reduces VR&E 1:1, but the reverse isn’t true.

• VA disability rating of 10% or higher (service-connected).
• A documented employment handicap (how your disability impacts work).
• Counseling styles vary, so be ready with a clear career plan.

1. Lock in your disability rating (work with VFW/VSOs, gather medical records).
2. Apply to your target programs early—acceptance letters help.
3. Submit VR&E application at va.gov.
4. Prep for the counselor interview: program choice, career goal, passion, and why benefits matter.
5. Discuss counselor transfers if attending school out of state.
6. Complete the paperwork promptly (acceptance letter, forms, degree plan).
7. Coordinate with your school’s VA certifying official and student veteran office each semester.

• Communicate proactively with your counselor and school contacts.
• Reconfirm funding each semester.
• Ask for additional support (tutors, adaptive equipment) if needed—VR&E can often cover it.
